While some enema practitioners feel that the container is important to the entire process, some other people do not have any issues with it at all. The size of the container is also an issue that some people will discuss. Typically, the larger the container the higher the dosage that can be administered. There is some debate as to how large should the container be when considering that enemas are considered very safe procedures. There are those that believe that no dosage should be administered over the limit of one ounce per minute and there are those that feel that this is not a safe practice and will overpower the process.

The way that the filling material is to be inserted into the container will affect the effectiveness of the entire procedure. The most common filling material is sterile butyl rubber. Some newer materials that are becoming more widely used are KY Jelly, Calamine Moisturizer, and sterile gauze. When selecting the filling, make sure that it is FDA approved so that you are not exposing yourself to harmful chemicals during the process.
